There's a 2nd gen Volt for sale at a local used car dealership that I go past regularly. I've been tempted to drop in and take a closer look at it.

Not actually shopping; just curious.

The sales guys there are friendly, so I might even get a no-pressure opportunity to drive it.

One day I was walking past & stopped to watch them unload an Audi R8 off a car transporter. The guy said, "want to take it for a spin?"

PS: the last Volt that I sat in was a pre-production 2016 model that I spotted (10 years ago - ha) near General Motors' Canadian head office. The engineer driving it saw me snapping a picture and invited me to check it out.

No doubt a lot more than the car would be worth, even with a new pack in it.

Is this based on a part's price being higher as a replacement than as a component in the complete vehicle?

There would be two descending curves, the value in the body (assuming it's not a Cybertruck ), and the presumed progress in the battery field -- scaling benefit, newer tech, and recycling.
