Does anyone know if it is required by law to have insulation on a Quonset hut ?
I have seen several that have bare metal walls, and are homes.
On the SteelMaster website, they state that it is not required, but it doesn't mention if it is required by code when used as a home.
Supposedly, a guy has one in the desert and it "doesn't get hot enough to reqire an A/C"

I like the look of the exposed ribs though.
The buildings look awful when insulated, unless you create an actual ceiling to cover up the mess.

So far as I can tell, Fuller's Dymaxion Dwelling Unit (DDU) was unlined and uninsulated. With venting at the apex and ground level, it maintained a ten degree (air temperature) difference.

Even when an uninsulated building may be OK in real-world conditions, I doubt it would get approval nowadays. Regarding metal structures, I'd also be quite concerned about electrical conductivity.

The hangar we had that got spray foamed for a reason: oven like in summer, frozen in winter, but it was really good at keeping the wind off.

Every one I have been in has conduit for the electricity, lightning strikes just burn a hole, or at least what I have heard. Never saw a strike on one personally so I'm not sure where the concern would be

So it would be out of question for me to build one without a lightning rod. Climbing a metal roof to patch it after a lightning strike is not something I'm so willing to do.

Don't need to climb, patch it from the inside with a man-lift and sealant and a saved piece of corrugated. The drilling for the bolt holes clearance would be a PITA

Up side: I personally don't know anybody that had a lightening strike, my knowledge is via aircraft related publication. I've witnessed more neighborhood strikes on trees, telephone poles, and roofs.

I don't remember seeing so many lightning strikes on roofs, yet trees and poles seem to attract them as much as a lightning rod.
