I've always thought that it someone engineered a combination head and turbocharger[s], they could sell two to each customer.

One thing I would like to have is a Maslow CNC router*. It will accommotate 4x8 sheets of plywood.

This VW station wagon conversion uses compound curved wood joinery. The same shape could be created by laminating 1/8-1/4" plywood cutouts.

That would require finger-jointing two pieces together for each side. But it could be reduced down to an aerocap that clips on like a Jim Dandy luggare rack.

Unlike the rack (or wagon) it would taper in plan, the seam across the roof under a vinyl top.

edit: Cooling could be a row of dimpled died holes down the front of the [skirted] rear fender, pressurizing the rear wheelwell that feeds a Type III fan intake.

* Maslow4 Kit $525.00 -- SOLD OUT

2nd edit: I guess I'm back to where I was in 2012, so I've had the Superbeetle longer than any other so far.

Weird. My Imgur account is gone but the picture still posts. Just the opposite to Photobucket.

An explainer on coachbuilt fiberglass VWs in the 1960s.

.Coachbuilt' because the Manx is pre-kitcar, and the Brubaker Box wasn't a kit at all.

Their Associate Curator doesn't get everything right.

He describes a 'one-piece' Manx. It was always two pieces, the tub and the hood. The change he fails to characterize is the switch from a full monocoque tub to fitting a shortened VW floorpan. [This example appears to have a floorpan]

At ?t=201 the b&w stills sequence shows an EMPI Imp. It was Manx's biggest competitor, but in braked sheet metal. That design was published in Popular Mechanix Illustrated as a DIY project. Plans and templates are still available.

At ?t=489 he shows a dashboard cooler full of crushed ice. Any Type II owner who has a full tray under the dashboard knows what happens when you hit a speed bump.
