Ganador Style Mirrors

In this forum some one recently posted a beautiful blue Mazda RX7 with some very nice aerodynamic treatments. I wanted to see if there were other RX7's out there (with cool aero) and did a search, and quickly found something I did not expect, a very special looking mirror.

I could find nothing on the history of the Ganador mirror other than it is from Japan, and real ones are quite pricey (and do not work well on LHD as they were designed for RHD).

Thoughts, opinions appreciated (regarding aerodynamic benefits), and maybe if someone can find a CFD or wind tunnel with smoke example lease post it and it's link.

Well it still has a flat rear facing mirror, and I am dubious of the hole doing anything more than adding drag.

They do look sexy.

Where side view mirrors are usually located is a problematic area prone to turbulence. Anything that tries to make sense of this chaos and funnel the air in a more controlled manner might be an improvement.

I did find a side view, wish that I could find an orthogonal drawing.

I do not see any taper, but that is not the only way a design like this can be helpful in my opinion.

It's a converging duct. the result would be a high speed jet punching through the general mayhem abaft the mirror's face.

This high velocity jet would be low pressure, and the surrounding higher pressure air would be sucked into it's path - yes?

Not saying such a path along the side of the car would be anything but disruptive to "air attachment" and "air flow", but if greeted aft by some sort of intake, could manage the flow in a controlled manner.

Think of the diagram below, front of wing jet is the side view mirror, and the aft suction inlet manages the jet so that it conforms to the body's surface or in the image below is attached the top of the wing.

Maybe it funnels the jet of air across the side window, to keep it clean?

They may just be a 'solution' in search of a 'problem'.
McLaren doesn't even use it's own, patented, jetted mirror design.
My present recommendation for side mirror design is Teslas'.

I was just about to say the McLaren and Tesla designs appear to pull the mirror away from the car slightly more than others - then you clobber it with a mallet.
