I don't have much time to work on this project these days... but as an aside: all this talk about aftermarket HUDs, but I haven't seen one that gives you MPG. A phone platform GPS speedo is cool, but it won't give you RPM. The only aftermarket ones capable of MPG would be OBD-II compatible, but I haven't seen the GM one display mpg. Am I missing something?

I looked them up on ebay and found one that shows MPG. Look up Item # 220577097596.
It shows MPG and other functions also.

I'm not seeing MPG on that one. "Engine performance - bar graph" is the closest sounding option.

And I'm not saying mine will look better than that one, but it'll certainly cost $450 less, lol.

I wonder if the corvette hud would work with a little modification? Curious because it too is a chevy, but it has a V8. Might not work due to parameters being different between engines. Anyone have a comment?

Right. For the whole kit it is around $500. but I am thinking of the hud itself and what Iwill need to interface it with my Cobalt.

I meant anything off a corvette is probably pricey too.

I'm not sure, and I'm not going to try. I've done limited research into it, because I honestly haven't been open minded about it. But it seems like it's a GM feature that would only work on GM cars pre-wired to connect to a HUD. The corvette also displays lateral G-force, so that probably wouldn't be a OBD-II style connection (making it easily transferable to other vehicles). Besides I'm just not going to pay for an aftermarket HUD.

And I'm still haven't seen one (factory or aftermarket) on the market that displays MPG, although some have made that assertion.

If you look up the one ,on ebay, that I posted earlier, it has a mpg in the picture. Its hard to see, but enlarge the pic and look where it displays the screen and its on the lefthand side right where the black part of the picture starts. Sorry , I don't know how to explain it better, as to where it is , but it does say further down the page that it can do mpg/ kph also. Although this unit is a bit pricey also.
