Go Kart Engine Swap

I'm interested in deactivating cylinders because or a rod knock that has left one cylinder of a 2.4L inline 4 ruined. I'm wondering if i can use this engine on my Go Kart (which previously had a 5hp engine(and barely got me to work on time )) I've got a carburetor and was wondering if i can just remove the piston or weld it in place if i need to. Would this work and just shake a lot or would it even crank over? Everything was free and I would like to see it all run again even if I need to Frankenstein it back together. Thanks

oldtamiyaphile -- That story is probably the one about the college students' cut-down flat twin. I thought it's been posted here, but I can't find it.

Anyway, it was a bandsawn and rewelded case and bandsawn heads. The other trick parts are the camshaft and crank. They may have used a built-up roller bearing crank.

There have also been examples of VWs with one bank lopped off for a flat inline twin. Those aren't as successful.

Gary Emory also cut Porsche sixes down into fours. Don't know that they have ever done a DOHC flat twin, though.
