Mini rear spoiler on estate

Hi am thinking about putting a horizontal spoiler on my estate where the sheet metal goes from upright to angled.
. This is bad photo of what i intend. Spoiler will be about 1 1/2". Also would spoiler on top of tail gate need to removed. Any advice good bad or indifferent gratefully received.

Autodesk has free windtunnel software. You could have a look at that, it will give you an idea of what eill happen.

I found a similar model to my car on grabcad.com to use in the wind tunnel software.

I have no idea what your car is, and it probably does not exist where i live.

I suspect your car is similar to what some call an econobox.

Surf around the forum to find typical solutions to similar vehicles.

What ever you do either needs to be in the airflow, stepped back slightly from the surface plane, or at the surface plane (like the roof).

Doing something way at the back in a area out of the flow isn't going to do anything but rob you of time and money.

I have seen spoilers in the proposed location, they always looked like marketing department efforts and not something stemming from the aerodynamics lab.

Some of the old air-cooled Beetles of the 1960's were known for adding some fun looking stuff at the tail end but to little effect other than aesthetics. Such things look cool, but are of little to no value. The main value is "looking cool" in almost every case I'm thinking of.

A station wagon or a van would most likely benefit from extension panels at the roof, sides, and under side. Use clear material near the tail lights.

• What do you hope to accomplish?
• What is the angle of the lift gate?
• Is it plus or minus to 30°?
• Does that orange squiggle represent a Gurney flap/spoiler?
• Or a detached wing?

Hope to keep rear screen clear and reduce drag.
Approx 70-80 degrees from horizontal.
Orange squiggle would be a lip spoiler set as close to horizontal as possiable.
