New car, Peugeot 306

After ecomodding the Volvo (http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...ent-29074.html) it's time for a new car.

My work has moved further away, so instead of 10km per day, I have to travel 60km per day. That combined with the new tax rules in The Netherlands (not allowed to drive >25 year old cars in wintertime) ment that I had to search for another car. I have chosen this one because it has most of the things I want. LPG injection with under-car tank, ABS, 2 airbags, towbar and lots of room in the back, airco, electric windows, power steering, and ofcourse it wasn't the most expensive car.

The car has a 1.6 8v four cylinder. Which is rated at 7,3 l/100km (13,7km/L)

Plans are to run a couple of tanks for a baseline, and then start with the easy things. Roof rails are bothering me most.

Nice car. LPG G3 is pretty sweet as far as cost/km.

Well, you're allowed to, but you'll pay (a lot) more tax.
Full tarif would be about €524/year.
Reduced tarif would be about €98/year (which allows you to drive for 9 months, then 3 months off of the road in the winter.)
So I can see why you chose to go to another car.

Money. We pay a TON of tax each year to own a car, and as a little tax break to people of classic cars, they made cars over 25 tax exempt. However, with certain cars being nearly indistructible in the 80's, people started using old cars as daily drivers, especially diesel mercedeses were imported from far and wide, people got big luxury cars without paying the huge tax associated with owning a heavy car, a diesel car, or the combination of the two.

So the government, annoyed at how much tax they were missing out on, moved the oldtimer age to 40 years and called it "because old diesel cars pollute". Thanks to some lobby club, at least petrol cars between 25 and 40 get a 75% reduction on the tax if they stay off of the road in the winter, Diesel and LPG cars pay the full price, leading to lots of oldtimers being scrapped, especially oldtimer 4x4's were hit hard (both high weight and diesel == lots of tax).

I understand the use of taxes to pressure people to bend to the governments will, but why the winter time caveat.

Because its for "classic cars", and "nobody who really cares about their classic uses their car in the winter, when the roads are salted".

In all honesty, its a compromise towards people who have an older, classic car, and who wouldn't run it in the winter anyway. (In other words, the lobby group)
They chose to only give this exception to petrol, because our government is convinced LPG and Diesel are only used by people to drive cheaper, you wouldn't "need it" on a classic car, so no discount for the people who own a classic 4x4 or old mercedes or something else that came with a diesel engine for more torque, and lots of people with classic american cars stripping out their LPG setup, even though gas is 3x the price of LPG.

And the best part is, they wanted to gather like €1 bilion a year extra in tax, but they got like 125 milion extra, because lots of cars got taken off the road to wait it out to 40, or got scrapped because they went from cheap to own, to ridiculously expensive.

Right, the week after I bought the car.. I got a company car (not for private use) and with that I have to travel 3 hours a day .. So I now have three cars and zero time to work on them

But last weekend and tonight I made some progress on the Peugeot! Removed the roofrails and made a upper grill block, no pictures of that.

Last week, I found one Audi tire deflector on a parkinglot.. so with my last bit of PVC sheet I made a tire deflector for the other side.

And I started on mounting the smooth hubcaps to the plastic rims. Which is much easier than fastening them to alloy rims.

The not anymore existing roofrails!

I can't decide if they should be black, or silver. Or maybe I paint some spokes on them. What do you think?
