New guy (with 2001 V6 Mustang)
How's it going guys? I'm here to figure out a way to get my 2001 V6 Mustang to get better gas mileage. Right now i'm averaging between 15 and 17 i NEED to get new oxygen sensors, and i need to weld up a couple of spots in my exhaust. Hope to find some good tips here.

Welcome! You can join Team Mustang from the link under mine. I am glad you are already setup in the garage.
I am sure others wil be here, and be helpful with welcomes, but the best gain to price is modifying drivin habits. The 100 hypermiling techniques works great. If you tried a new one everyday, at least, you would see an improvement.
Efficiency mods are great, too, but work better with improved driver input.
Simple stuff is a grill block, inflated tires and system monitoring helps a ton. It seems over hyped, but knowing exactly what is goong on, and the affect of simple changes can work wonders. I just bought my wife a scanguage ii,so we will see how her mileage changes with it.

Hello. If i was in your position i would do 3 things first
1. Driving habits, hypermiling will do wonders for your mileage for me it was about 6 mpg change in my grand am
2. Buy a gauge, I would recommend either a scangauge or an ultragauge to help out with monitoring your fuel economy. Using a gauge allows you to play a game with fuel economy by getting a better high score where the score is your mpgs
3. oxygen sensors, not so much the post cat sensor, but pre-cat changes your fuel ratio causing you to burn more fuel then necessary. On MOST cars the post cat sensor doesn't change anything
Doing all this you should be able to pull mid 20s

Good news! i found a blown fuse, which controlled most of my engine components.. car runs smoother than ever, and it looks to have increased my MPG.. go figure. lol.

gratz now with your new mpg due to the tune up mod. I hope you continue to ecomod/hypermile, i've been much more relaxed since i started and the added money in my pocket is nice to

change the transmission oil, 10W30 motor oil is what it calls for, 0W30 works great.

30 MPG is not out of reach for a V-6 Mustang with a manual transmission.

Full under-body pan (can be made out of marine-grade plywood like it's done in some race cars), weight reduction with some aftermarket fiberglass body panels (door skins, front clip, trunk lid) and stripping the interior trim as much as possible, among other things. Some racing seats weight less than 30lbs.
Another thing I'd consider would be a kill switch.

Screw the cats, throw a straight pipe (try a homemade one made out of aluminium beer cans ) and reprogram the ECU.
