I've been driving a TDI ALH 5 speed Beetle for about a month now. What did you do to increase your mileage, getting close to 50. Looking to add either a Torque Pro or a Can Gaugeii.

I'm not the best guy to ask about increasing MPG. I did more to increase the performance, and I typically get 46 in mixed driving. So does my wife in her stock car, but no scangauge to help out. I get a little crazy riding with her sometimes.
I drove 300 miles today across the mountains and thought about your question.
Torque pro on a phone is nice, but as I drove along the nearest place I could put one in my scan was over the top of the vents to the left or right of the wheel. Because of that, and also the fiddly nature of things on phones, I am quite happy to recommend a scanguage install as I did it here.

It is right in your scan, and no way a phone would fit there and not block the instruments behind. I have been very pleased overall.
It starts up with the car. it turns off with the car. It requires no input from me.
A phone is either a spare phone, in a mount, with a power cable;
Or it is your personal phone that you have to put in the mount, start the app, etc.
That right there is enough for me. I have used my phone for nav, for example. It works, but not nearly as nice as a dedicated GPS.

I'm actually trying to sell my 2001 Beetle TDI. I hate working on it.

One word of caution--be careful about running low RPM to increase mileage. Clogs up the turbo. Luckily I caught it in time to start shifting higher and spinning up the turbo properly so it wouldn't seize up completely.

Been driving mine now for over a year. Had problems with setting timing codes, but have been running Stanadyne Performance Additive and never looked back, love the car! Also burning Love's biofuel or B20 when I'm on the road and can find it. I should have been driving a TDI or VW diesel all my life for all the driving I do.
