Pretty much every hybrid has a lower coefficient of drag then the leaf, from what I've read about the Leaf their big worry was about noise, not low drag.

Those miniscule blisters BEHIND that "shelf" are even in contact with flow?!? I'd like to see streamers or smoke over them.

Wouldn't lowering the drag also make the car more quiet ?

They turned the headlights in to air deflectors to make big air bubbles around the side mirrors, this would have the affect of increasing drag while reducing noise.
So you would think that a quite car would be aerodynamic, but look at the list of cars with low Cd and you will see cars like the prius and civic hybrid that do much better then the leaf.

I was at Nissan North America for the preview drive a few months ago. Steve Perry was not the only one talking about the headlights and flow patterns. Extensive modifications and design were necessary to the front of the car for wind noise. Without the normal buzz of an ICE, wind noise was very loud and noticeable. The design of the headlights splits the air stream to miss the rear view mirrors. Getting rid of the wind noise was a major hurdle in the finished Leaf. They did a great job making the car quiet.

BTW: If you have seen any posts about a 6 second 0-60 time, it's not true unless they had a Leaf set up a lot different than I drove. Me and and editor from Winding rode tested the 0-60. He used the clock on his iPhone. It was at least a 10 second 0-60 time. It pulls well, but it's not a Tesla.

On the in-dash driver feedback on that Leaf they showed Acceleration time, Braking time, and "Idol" time. I hope they got that fixed before they started selling them.

Billy Idol fans would prefer it that way.

" Oh look it's Idol time again. Now where is that CD at .... "
