No more left turns!

I know this isn't a new idea, BUT, if I'm making a left turn across two lanes to pull in to the coffee shop, I now go down one more block and turn RIGHT, thereby eliminating having to wait for traffic across two lanes. And on my latest trips to Vermont, still getting 55 mpg with my 97' Escort

only makes sense if there is actually traffic to wait for. what about when you leave the coffee shop and go back the direction you just came from? still have to wait for any traffic.

traffic

Good point....since I can't predict the traffic volume, I just reverse the trip when I leave...the idea is I only have to wait for one lane of traffic, not two...with a right turn, not only are you entering only one lane, you're going the same direction as the flow...

this works when there is a street parallel to the coffe shop street...you go down one block, and continue the trip home...

Alot of states already mandate this, or at least something similiar I think. Your talking about making a U turn 1 block from your destination and taking a right turn into the location right? Michigan (among other states) has this policy and it works pretty well to keeping traffic moving along in high density areas.

I use this strategy frequently if there is a line to make a left turn on a divided street. Most of the time I can go to the next intersection, make a U turn, drive to my destination and park before I would ever make my way to the road in that line. Overall I think its a very eco driving technique.

Hopefully everything I typed made some sort of sense...this lecture is boring me to sleep.

a boring lecture

Ha Ha ...sorry It's not more entertaining...you're right...I'm also referring to driving down a parallel street and going down another block so I don' t need a U-turn...

I think I'm missing something here I do not see how driving past a location on the left and then turning right gets you any closer or saves time. You cant be making a U turn because that would be a left turn if you are doing a loop to get there that adds distance and six more turns.

Turn your engine off while you're waiting to turn left and then you won't have to do any of that other nonsense.

more tips on avoiding lefts

Every morning, instead of driving down a street perpendicular to the(two lane) main drag, and waiting to make a LEFT turn to the coffee shop across the street to the LEFT of the intersection, I drive down to the next perpendicular street,(now I'm across the street from the coffee shop, which is now on my RIGHT), now I only have to wait for a break in the right travel lane, turn right, then LEFT into the store...saves a ton of gas waiting for a break across two lanes of traffic...hope this helps....Peace,Glider
