Sold! (To a rare youth)

^ I'm sure it doesn't hurt!

The car sold on the weekend to a vanishingly rare youth who specifically wanted a car with a manual transmission.

Coulda knocked me over with a feather.

(Then again, his mom told me she only buys manuals. Nurture vs. nature!)

He arrived with his folks in his dad's giant GM pickup.

He took the Mirage for a test drive and declared he loved it, and was particularly impressed with the 4.7 L/100 km = 50 MPG US on the display when we got back.

He joked with his dad that the last time he filled his truck, it was around 20 L/ 100 km = 12 MPG.

Even in my country, where driving tests are usually taken in cars fitted with a manual transmissions (automatics at the driving test here are IIRC only allowed for disabled drivers), it's not so unusual to see teenagers more favorable to the automatics than when I had their age.

My maternal grandmother used to be extremely unfavorable to automatics, and then she bought one 9 years ago.

Sayonara...

That's the new owner driving away last evening.

And he's a budding eco-driver! When he turned on the ignition, he noticed the fuel economy display was now at 5.0 L/100 km (after his test drive it showed 4.7).

He joked: "I see you took it out for one last rip."

I said, "I guess your challenge is to get it back to where you had it."

Of course they are much more comfortable around town. On highway it's usually not so much of a PITA to drive with a manual anyway.

So do I, but my knees are not something to write home about. I have actually considered a hand clutch adaptation for some cars I used to drive often.
