aerohead -- You still have the Ghia, right? Convert to electric and then build a box from behind the seats to 6" beyond the stock back bumper. Presto, fodder for the link.
I landed on Permalink #41 and revisited the Original Post.
Do you have an actual DBA? Are you actively using this title currently? I used to brand my Christmas cards with 'Bougas Enterprises'.

*I've not seen those guys design.Would like to
*Yes,still have Ghia. The North Texas Electric Auto guys have all I need for an EV conversion.I live 6-miles from Denton.I don't need a bunch of range.
And yes,the body will be corrupted. The roof went away with the SawsAll.She'll be a spyder at first, with turtledeck head fairing, tonneau over passenger side and rear seat, (mocked up in plaster right now).I have a second (mini-hypercar) Plex aircraft canopy also.
*The DBA has lapsed.

I wouldn't hold your breath on a new Dakota, let alone it looking anything like those renderings. Allpar isn't known for being the most accurate site, even among the wild speculation of future-cars news outlets.

I would love to see a new Ranger based on the Transit Connect, wont hold my breath on that either. The compact pickup segment is likely dead for at least the rest of the decade. Even the current compact pickups have ballooned, the base model Tacoma weighs 3500 lbs.
*sigh

Yes,so many of these concepts died in the crib. The very fact that an idea got this far along does suggest that some designers are aware of the physics involved in efficiency.Especially in light of the upcoming 2025 CAFE standards for light trucks. And that's a consolation right there.
Mercedes has caught up to Ford's Cd 0.22 Probe concept of 1983.
It will be an interesting decade to watch.

My thought was incomplete. The electric conversion would allow a pickup box to be almost as low as the floor of the engine compartment.
OTOH, for a spyder... Hot VWs had a feature car once (I'd never find it again, I've got 30 years of back issues) that was a Ghia roadster. He used the top back roof section from an El Camino for the back edge of the cockpit. It matched the contour of the Ghia perfectly and gave a nice curve to the edge. One could reproduce it with a piece of pipe bent to match the El Camino.
I like the idea of the Ghia fenders and tailights on either side of a tailgate.

FYI: I saw a Jeep Pick-up truck outside of Ann Arbor today similar to the picture below. I'm not sure if it's an aftermarket product or something coming out of the factories today.
AEV fills the void for a Jeep pickup, will debut truck at the SEMA show - Autoweek
EDIT: updating link........... 11/06/16

Thanks Brett!
The more research on this sort of thing the better. And it's great to try 'n get all the pickup data into a consolidated archive.
It takes a village to streamline a truck.

New here
Really interested in improving my MPG on my 2006 Dodge Mega Cab. I saw down below that the CD on my truck was .44, I'm assuming that b/c I put 33's on it that it's worse now. I have a 6 ft bed and was thinking of doing the half tonneau cover. If I was to build it, what would be the amount to leave exposed? Any other ideas to improve my whopping 9.3 mpg would greatly appreciated. (with my trailer and loaded, 6.2 mpg's) I'm going to be building a slope on the front of my trailer which should help. Let me know. Thanks.
