Running An Insight Without the NiMH / High Voltage Battery

In the winter before it met its sad fate, the UFO was getting about 5.0 litres/100km (~47mpg) without IMA assist, and with heavy steel rims and snow tires.

I wasn't around earlier in 2015 when my cousin bought it, so I don't know what kind of fuel economy it was getting in better weather with the stock rims.

I ran my Civic hybrid like this for a while, and it wasn't as much of a hit as you might think. I don't have numbers but I want to say it was less than 10%, maybe as little as 5%. You don't have the IMA system but you still have everything else working for you, aerodynamics, lean burn, tall gearing etc etc.

Looking for some related help.. My IMA battery went so I switched it off and disconnected the tutorial. Well my 12v oem starter was junk. So I ordered a new one. Installed fixed grounding cables as well.

Now the car wouldn't start with the battery so I gave it a jump with my charger and it will start. However even after driving the battery won't start it. I did a load test on the battery and it only drops form 12.5 to 11.4 volts when attempting to start the engine turns over but does not start. Can anyone give me any ideas why this would be?



That is the starter I tried.(can't link but its a db starter Db Electrical Smu0423) The battery is brand new now but is an optima and I don't really trust them... It's got a year old sticker but is new to me.

Not sure what to try next. the car starts and runs fine if I give it a jump!

Insight first gen.

Now I can't even get the starter to spin again. I'm wondering if it's just a junk starter. Going to tear off the airbox again tomorrow and run a jumper to the starter see if I can get it to turn. Double check my grounds all that good stuff. So frustrating! haha

Only reason I ask is because the Civic needs a small modification to enable 12V charging with the IMA battery removed. Based on what you're experiencing I would suspect the starter, or possibly the relay or a ground.

I know this post is a little late, but I am now running with no IMA, and the engine is very smooth at idle.

It's actually the motor itself that doubles as a balancer. Even if you have no IMA functions the motor is still attached to the engine.
