Using the projected views I found on the web to engineer the hitch box envelopes. I transferred the pixel coordinates of each red dot to a spreadsheet and scaled it to the 97 Civic's spec length width and height (3.8 pix/inch). The orange triangle depicts a 26 degree margin between the box and the trunk. The blue triangle is between 10° and 15.5°. Actually I ended up compromising and using 12.5°.
