this in response to the first part of this thread. I drive a 99 dodge ctd. when I got it I only got 14 mpg. now with the help of this forum I have on average gotten 19.28 mpg and my last trip 22.12...

I need to add this as well . I found one of the inner wheel bearing races bad (chattered)and that meant the bearing was also bad, grinding noise. Now-- that was a pita to replace

the axle job is not all that difficult and the only special tool needed is a pinkel fork or two jaw puller for the lower control arm link as recall. I unbolt the caliper and swing it out of the way...
