I tried to guess what would be on the list, and fared poorly. I's outta the loop!

I've never really cared about acceleration performance. I hear it's addictive. (I drove a 4-cylinder Suzuki Swift once!!) Slippery slope?

The Camry is up to 51/53 now? That's impressive.

This list omits EV's.

Even a "boring" base Nissan Leaf does 0-60 in 7.5 seconds with the small battery; 6.5 seconds with the optional larger battery, according to MT. Quick enough to beat all these gassers.

I suspect people still have the impression that EV's are slow (with some exceptions... Tesla).

A friend of mine (who's a "car guy") recently bought a GTI. He commutes 180 km / ~110 mi daily. He said he would have loved a Tesla 3, but for the cost. I asked why he didn't go for a cheaper Chevy Bolt instead, and he said "too slow" (though he admitted he didn't research the numbers).

We looked it up, and the Bolt is within a tenth or two to 60 as quick as his GTI.

Makes you wonder what they're doing wrong with the Prius. Prius gets similar mileage, weighs 4-500lbs less, and takes about 2.5 seconds longer to get to 60. I'm betting the Camry has a perpetual motion machine hidden under the hood. ;)

You'd have to take a look at the real world numbers. Toyota hybrid EPA ratings seem to be all over the place, especially considering how widely mileage can vary depending on weather and driving style.

Recently saw a Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor with the Performance Package. I had never heard of it. The guy driving it said 0-60 in something like 3.x seconds and then left me staring at his taillights at the stop light. I had the windows down and hardly heard a sound. He said something about if you saw the Tesla with a red line below the emblems it had the performance package. I haven't read about it yet but his car was pretty impressive.

Note: the Camry only gets a 52 mpg rating in its lowest trim, LE. The XLE and SE hybrid are rated 46 mpg. The LE probably slots into a lower weight class, since it squeaks in under 3500 lbs while the XLE and SE are above that, so the correction factor applied to the final result is more generous. Same thing happens with the Prius LE Eco vs. all the other trims.

Interesting list. I'm planning to buy a Civic this year.

Interesting to see the Sonata plug-in is faster to 60, but has a significantly lower MPG rating. I wonder why that is?

Seems the Accord hybrid is the one to get. Prius-like fuel economy without Prius-like acceleration.

All that said, my next personal vehicle will be an EV.

How about a new #1?

50+ MPG highway cruising, 0-60 <4.5 seconds (and<4 seconds with different tires).

The shop that helped me with much of the fabrication had some explicit words for me when I told them I still haven't exceeded 75mph.
