Only applies for cars build by US union workers.

It would otherwise make a Dacia Spring pretty cheap.

Cap should be lowered to $50000 (or even $35,000)

Legislation should block EV road taxation until specific benchmarks are met

Too bad the clickbait doesn’t spell out anything of substance about the bill
AKA What kind of vehicles get the full $12,500, can a tricycle or motorcycle get a rebate
What size battery gets the rebate
Do PHEVs get a rebate
Can the poor claim a rebate on an older EV ?

My guess is the specifics of the bill will morph as it gets closer to reality anyway and the like hood of passing soon is small

Why should a turd be modified to be a smaller turd? That's getting trapped into the same retarded line of thought that came up with the bad idea in the first place.

It should be zero, and Mother Earth wouldn't even notice.

I think the subsidy should be a million bucks, but only for the top 1% of earners. If they want to pay wealthy people to buy things, just go all in.

If federal politicians took a year or three off, we'd all be much better off for it.

Originally there was talk that this rebate would be an up front subsidy not based on tax liability removing income issues.

The article is poorly written with no detail about the mechanics of the bill that matter.

AKA It could have just said $12500 EV rebate passes committee and had no other detail and it would have been just as informative.

The real effects of how this thing functions dramatically change the conversation
Since I’m gonna guess if it comes out as being a payment direct to anyone’s pocket who buys you will be in even more of a rage, right?

The wealthier among us buy new vehicles. Making it an upfront rebate still puts wealthy people who purchase new vehicles at an advantage, because poor people still aren't going to buy a $40k vehicle that has been subsidied down to $28k.

Besides all that, manufacturers and dealerships will simply increase price to balance supply and demand.

EVs are made in limited quantities because battery manufacturing is constrained. Creating subsidies to purchase EVs aren't going to magic more batteries into existence, and it's not going to magic a lower purchase price. Supply and demand sets the price, and nothing else. Artificially increase demand with a subsidy, and the price must go up.

As an example, the Chevy Bolt can be had new for low $20s (somewhere around $24k) with no subsidy. That's lower than the subsidized price back when Chevy still had the full $7,500 federal credit.

But what if I just want the motor I already have in the old car I already have. Twelve five would go a long way, maybe even upholstery.

Don't like unions either.
So it's basically cash for clunkers 2, the search for more [other people's] money.
The fact that the money is going to be funneled to unions in blue states is a poison pill, I don't expect it to pass.

Using what already exists isn't how environmentality works. You've got to sacrifice to get something new as atonement for your sinful ways. Atonement can be purchased for as little as $24k, to well into $150k. Atonement comes in various color options too, so it's not all bad.
