'13 Dodge Avenger Next step
 

Couple weeks in and I can't do any more on my driving habits. I average about 34mpg, getting as high as 38mpg. Big improvement over what I was getting before. What would you reccomend as the next step? I like the idea of body mods, but I have mental issues with messing with a car I'm still making payments on. A belly pan is my first thought. Seems easy enough to start. What about coroplast on body mods? How do you attach it to the body?

Can you tell us about how you drive the car,speeds?,distance?
As to the belly,there might be existing 'holes' under the car which a framework for the belly pan could be attached,without drilling anything.

Mostly highway driving. I average about 80 miles a day (roundtrip) and keep the speed around 55mph. I'm not the most popular guy on the freeway now, but a tank of gas lasts my whole work set.

Does it have or could it have a trailer hitch? Alloy or steel wheels?

MetroMPG's method from 2008 for attaching fender skirts. These are nibbling at the edge of the problem; the things that would make a sizable difference would be a comprehensive attack on the underside (diverter/belly pan/diffuser and wheel spats) [and/or] a sizable boat tail mounted on the trailer hitch you'd have to add.

I'm having trouble loading pictures from my phone. I'll try later. Gotta get some coroplast and I'll try that with the wheels. As far as wheel skirts, that's a bit tricky. The door runs into the wheel well and is part of the fender well.

I'd never considered that situation. Would you want fender skirts?

What's the thickest material that will slip between the door and jamb? If you would close the door on the skirt, could that seal the front edge?

Maybe an 1/8 of an inch. I could probably smash the edge 9f the coroplast. I'm going to look around for some tonight and probably do some work Friday. I'd like to get something done before I go back to work Saturday so I can compare mpg.

freebeard, those clips are what I used on my skirts but in stainless. You can forgo the nuts and bolts that way. Once they are mounted they seem very solid and they are much easier to make with just a vise, hammer, flat head screw driver to pry the clamp part open.
