13'' Michelin Defender vs 13'' General Altimax RT Tire

The 175/70R13 Michelin Defender weighs in at 17.6 lbs. (LINK HERE) and the 175/70R13 General Altimax RT weighs in at 13.1 lbs. (NOT QUITE THE LINK)

Considering that the Michelin is an LRR tire that weighs more, which tire would be a better choice for my VX? I'm leaning toward the General because of the weight and cost.

The two rear tires on my VX now are the Michelin Defenders and I can feel the weight difference from the front two, which are not, when I was cleaning the rims the other day.

My Subaru has Goodyear TripleTread Assurance tires and I think those things weigh almost 28 lbs. Probably one of the heaviest tires on the market and a reason for par fuel economy in that car.

Thought?

Here's something in the middle.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Kumho&tireModel=Solus+KR21&part num=58TR3KR21&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes
$48, 14lbs, and 86K mile warranty.

Why would anyone run 13' tires on a Honda? Those would be more suited for monster trucks.

175/65/14 Bridgestone Ecopia EP100's on Miata wheels, which are lighter than VX wheels, 24.3 lbs for wheel and tire.

Corrected the monster tire thread title!

Aren't VX rims ~9.5 lbs? General tire 13.1 lbs for a total of 22.6 lbs per wheel/tire combo. And what about the rotational mass of a 14" rim vs the 13"?

Lighter weight and smaller rim?

I just put the AltiMax tires on my 01 prius

they are loud, and it seems I've lost about 1-2 mpg (highway commuting)

if you can afford it, Id say go with the Mich tires

I used Kumho's on my van. Rode smoother and quieter than the pirellis, or dunlops. Lasted longer too. Tire rack and others did have some Michelin ice-x on closeout. Those are LRR, and under $50 also.

Miata wheels do not fit Hondas because Mazda/Toyota has a smaller 54mm hub bore vs Hondas 56mm. You can pay $100 plus to have them bored out but why,

Civic HX wheels would be better and fit
