What tires are you guys running? Do you guys know of any good LRR tires that are currently available?

Tirerack has two options from Kumho. I haven't gone through many manufacturer's sites, but plan on doing some more digging. I see Michelin (who makes my beloved energy saver tire) doesn't even make 155/80-13s...

If we can not find any tires that claim to be LRR, is there any way of identifying tires that have better rolling resistance than others?
Michelin used to make the XZX radial in that size. I hated those tires. When I got my second diesel VW Rabbit, it had 175/70R13s which rode better. There were also more choices available. True, they probably had more rolling resistance, but back then I really didn't care. They are about the same height. The hot setup was 185/60R14s...just a teeny bit shorter, but did they handle good! Sorry about the sidebar.

Unhappy LRR 155/80-r13's

I found that Fulda has a Eco Control 155/80-r13 79T LRR tire. Their website shows no USA distributers. But, I thought I would try anyway. Just got through giving Tire Rack a piece of my mind for being near the top of my Google search, while offering no Fulda tires. Back to the drawing board, or hop a jet to Europe to buy tires, I guess. The Euro is on sale this week.

Has anyone tried the Kumho ecos? Any new developments in a 13" tire?

I'm planning on putting a set on, just still searching for a set of VX wheels. I think superfly (crx owner) got a set, he seemed to like them.

When I emailed the Michelin rep a while ago, he wrote that taller wheels have better LRR. That is one of the reasons wheels keep getting bigger.

I am putting 14" RX7 "phone dial" wheels on my project Metro. 175/65/14. They are very light.

The Kumho Solus KH17 did well in the German ADAC.de 's test of 175/65 R 14 T summer tyres (scored the 3rd place.

Kumho's are usually more middle-of-the-road in ADAC testing.
Not exceptionally good, but not bad either.

So it looks like the $64,000 question for me is... a set of 155/80-13, or the 175/70 in a "LRR" model (like the Kumho ecos)?

Any suggestion on this particular conundrum?

If the price is comparable, get the LRR ones, and put a spat in front of the tires to help shield them. Use plastic lawn edging for the spats...
If the price is not comparable, really look into the potential monetary fuel savings, decide how to proceed from there...
