Exactly! Lol. I love speed and acceleration but I did pretty good with my super slow VX. No highway and averaged low 40's mpg. All hills and winding roads on my current commute so when I have a fast car I drive it a little harder. I found this site a few weeks ago and decided to join

That's an additional $1,920 in fuel cost alone if you drive your truck.

A better FE vehicle would have a short payback time.
Crediting my Xterra with 18 mpg, my first three payments on my Fit are only $85 (total) more than my fuel savings over that time.

How do you like your Fit? I like those but have never driven one. I love a hatchback/ wagon more than a coupe any day. I may look into one of those if I get this new job.

It's peppy, nimble and has lots of space. There are more creaks than I expected from a Honda, but I've been hearing them less with the warm weather.

The real surprise was how stable it feels at high speeds. It's light with a lot of sail area, so it gets pushed around on the highway. but the few times I've been up over 70 it felt a lot more solid than I expected.

Oh, the fan has two speeds: ineffective and loud.

Sure the savings from getting a small car come at a shorter term, but I would still suggest you to not disconsider eventually a Diesel swap in the truck, since the older Toyotas have one of the best compact truck platforms

I plan on keeping this truck for a long time so when this engine gets time to replace it the diesel would be awesome. They didn't offer the diesel as an option in the US so finding one might be more difficult. 4 cylinder turbo diesel 5 speed Tacoma! That would be different...

You could import an used JDM or Euro-spec engine from the Toyota Hilux, or just go with either a Volkswagen TDI or the random industrial Kubota or Yanmar engines.
