My brother had the wagon and he got high 30's without trying, I had the two door hatch back 1981 civic and installed the FE tranny and was getting low 40's before it was rear ended while parked and totaled I also had a 1984 civic hatch back (newer, larger body but still cvcc engine) and with tools and a co-worker I would get 42.2mpg on every single tank of gas without any mods and tires that were to wide.
