2016 Fiesta ST

Hi everyone! I just got my first new car a 2016 Ford Fiesta ST. Although its built for speedy performance I am interested in getting the most fuel efficiency possible out of it. The car shows your real time and average mpg and I have been fixated on increasing these numbers.

The official ratings for the car are 26/33 and 29 combined. When pulling off the dealer lot the average mpg was 21 and after a few hundred miles it is now 25.8. My first goal is to get this number to 30, and ultimately I would like to achieve the maximum fuel efficiency possible for my car.

See you all around!

Welcome to the site.

The Fiesta ST sounds like a very fun car, and it has a pretty decent highway rating. I'm curious though, the 2014 and 2015 EPA ratings are a bit higher than the 2016 rating. If I were you, I'd try to figure out what the difference is.

What is your normal commute like? We can suggest some mods based off of that. Or, did you have some planned already?

Great point about the 2016 having lower milage, I will look into that. My main commute to work is about 40 highway miles round trip.

I don't have any mods planned yet because I'm new to this type of performance so I'm open to suggestion.

Averaged over 46 in my 2011 1.6 AT Fiesta. Yours should be good for 40 average unless you start driving at much slower average speeds (probably not).

I would not do engine off with that engine and direct injection. I did not do EOC in mine due to the auto.

Nice ride. That was my "but what I reeealy want..." when I was looking. The leftover 13 Honda was too good to pass up, though. I probably would have had more fun in the Ford, but not by much.

Welcome to the fun!

Welcome to the site!

Daox, the highway mileage dropped 2 MPG, but the big "29 MPG combined" is a bit confusing, especially when the city mileage did not improve.

Yeah, I noticed that. Could be a typo. I'm not sure. Its worth investigating.

The only information I have found regarding the highway mpg revision for the 2016 model is some drivers speculating that the previous highway rating of 35 was overrated and the new rating of 33 more accurately reflects what drivers are getting. I don't think there are any mechanical changes in the car that made the highway mileage mileage worse.

It's sad that EPA test results are too aspirational.
