1991 Ford Escort Wagon 1.9 SEFI 4 speed Automatic 40+ MPG

So what's the hurry? There is none when I'm in the Escort. Fuel saving mods are pretty straight forward. Drive the speed limit or under, time stop lights, coast off ramps in N when exiting, overinflate tires slightly, take out spare tire and excess weight, accelerate down hill, let off going up, etc. Best I've done is 42mpg in my 1991 Escort wagon 1.9 SEFI 4 cylinder 4 speed automatic, 18mpg in my 1989 F-350 Crew Cab Dually Diesel 5 speed 7.3 idi, 32mpg 1983 Mazda RX7 Convertible 1.3 liter 12B rotary 5 speed.

I'm jealous of your 42MPG in a 19 year old car. I can't beat that with a 2 year old car.

Sometimes use some 'questionable' techniques to get the mpg up. Draft off semi's. Put the car in N when coming to stops and gradually stopping. If I can do a roll through, sometimes, yeah. Try not to be dangerous, but whatever works for me. Try and keep the throttle at 1/4 way down (or less) too. Need to get some better tires, they're wore out. Hopefully with some better tread it will only get better : D
