The virus cut my fuel use...by over 90%

Well my university is now all online so instead of 550km a week travel to and home, I do zero. While I would like to go to lectures etc and would also love the virus to disappear, I am saving the price of about 45 litres of petrol each week.

I imagine air pollution is likely improving dramatically over the entire world.

Aside from the part where people are dying from a plague, I could get used to this.

I am slightly extroverted and miss what little interaction I got with people before. I'm headed to work at a hospital today, so that will be a nice change of pace.

I attended a Zoom chat wedding Saturday. It was the minimum number of people to be legally married, on a windy and cold (yet dry) Seattle day. 10 minutes of very choppy video and inaudible talking.

My favorite interviewer, Dave Rubin, has been doing Zoom chats too, so that's neat to get to interact with someone the closest to celebrity status one could get with me.

A group of friends will be doing happy hour Tuesday evenings with a focus on philosophy and financial discussion.

No change here, I ran up 1,230 miles on the leaf for March and I'm already over 200 miles for April.

I'm still working, but we close earlier- so I take back roads and get better mileage. Which is offset by stopping in at grocery stores more often.

But since my wife's minivan is only going to the dump once a week instead of 90-100 miles every weekday, we're way down on gas usage.

I work a job that has not changed. And, my commute is very gentle. Since most traffic is off the roads now, I am going a little slower and averaging about 5.2 mile per kWh of juice instead of 4.7 - 4.8 miles per kWh.

dropped from 1100 to
459miles locally for the month it's going to drop to 140-200 this month though(just driving it to keep the batteries charged up ) to prevent costly damage to the High voltage battery from letting it sit

Can not a 120vac or 240vac charger keep the batteries safely charged?

I dropped from 500 km per week on my truck to maybe 75, and 250 km per week to to maybe 20 km per week on my wife's SUV. No sports to attend for the grandson, no fund-raising stuff in person, etc etc.

It's depressing that we are just 'flattening the curve' so that those who need respirators and intensive care have a better shot at the care being available ... since there is no treatments or vaccine in our near future. People are dying from this pandemic, and all that we can do is .. hopefully .. reduce how many will die due to lack of equipment and care!

It's a tiny bit of a silver lining .. just a bit .. to know that whatever passes for normal 'afterward' will include much more teleconferencing, more technology in general ... and sad that local shopping may never recover from this hit.

This afternoon I had to pick something up at my wife's office. It's in a small, upscale city. The place looked like a ghost town, I saw maybe a dozen people on my way in. Didn't see a soul in her office building, didn't see anything open except gas stations and the liquor store. Saw maybe 4 people on my drive out. There were cars, but fewer than you'd see late at night back in the old days.
