1yr old Media 8000btu AC Walmart special won’t kick in the compressor

Why do new AC devices
1. Blow warmer air than antiques of the same BTU
2. Mold up or break down after a year?

This wasn’t a super cheap one either, has the stupid hose for narrow antique windows.

I could try to bring it back despite being a year or ??? Not really sure why new air conditioners don’t just kick in the compressor no matter what like the old units, I hate electronically throttled ac without full manual controls.

Needless to say I didn’t buy this thing either as I know better but it’s what I get as a shared resource.
