I prefer my seal oil lamps. Only trouble their is the smell and all the bunny huggers in the way of me clubbing them.

you sure? If the post office guys mishandle the box the gaskets on the jars breaks and seal goo seeps out and makes everything stink like dead fish.

I've been looking at the billion LED bulbs in the japanese stores recently and thinking about how poor I was and how I don't even own a light fixture in my apartment that takes a normal screw in bulb...

Maybe one day I'll go ahead and buy a lamp .

Are any of these powerful enough for a floor lamp that can be trusted to light much of a room?

Just be aware. I see many LED resellers saying that their bulbs are "60W equivalent" when they put out nowhere near the minimum lumens per the energy star chart below. However, I am seeing more and more bulbs that are more efficient than CFLs.

Wow, 110V incandescent bulbs are much brighter than their 230V equivalent. A 100W bulb on 230V only puts out ~1200lm iirc.
