That generation was when they became half decent.
That being said, having owned one, I'm not sure I'd recommend it. Oh, it worked fine and all, but there are plenty of better cars around that age/price. Very...boring. Cheap to own, mind you, and easy to work on. Didn't suffer from any particular, expensive-to-fix weaknesses.
