2006 km on a single tank: 106 MPG or 2.21 LHK

Skoda Fabia GreenLine Covers 2,006km on One Tankfull

Just over 2,000 kilometers (1247 miles)on a single tank of fuel - that is the achievement of Austrian Gerhard Plattner and the Skoda Fabia GreenLine he drove to Denmark and back. As a result, the compact model achieved an impressive 2.21 litres/100 km (106.4 mpg US), although the model’s Europe-standardized consumption is 3.4 l/100 km (69.2 mpg US).

“The Skoda GreenLine models are a prime example for fuel-efficient driving. In light of the current fuel prices, not only is that important for one’s own wallet, but also for lowering environmental pollution. With a fuel consumption well below the specified norm, I want to show that besides the car manufacturers, every driver can contribute to further reduce this environmental pollution. It already starts with small details such as the proper tire pressure,” Gerhard Plattner commented on the successful record-breaking trip.

That's without any (visible) mods - though I'd be surprised if the tyres didn't get some extra air in them

I should imagine that the car would be largely un-modified as a marketing exercise, but who knows? I wish that there was some [read: any] detail on what driving techniques were used. I'm guessing that Austria to Denmark would be mostly be on continental motorways (autoroutes, autobahns, whatever) so speeds were probably kept around 90kph to get that sort of economy.

I know that WE know all about efficient driving techniques (DWL, EOC, CODFISH etc.) but a lot of others DON'T. This sort of exercise is just telling people that they need to buy a more efficient car, whereas what everybody needs to do is drive in a more efficient manner. This irks me.

I recently came across a Polish article on this event.
2000 km na jednym zbiorniku paliwa

Worth noting in the picture gallery is the slick Kammback on the rear hatch:

I believe that this was a Fabia Greenline II, as I haven't seen this before on the previous Greenlines. Looks like Škoda has gone in the tracks of the Peugeot 207 Economique:

BTW I've started a thread on Gerhard Plattner, the driver who achieved this record tank for the Fabia.

Sigh,

You Europeans get all the good cars.
Closest available here is a Golf TDI. No Audi A2 either.

Why, oh why can't we get these ?

Have fun,

Way to go! I think that's an ecomodder record for longest distance on a tank. You've beaten my 1243.3 mi (2001 km). 1,252 mi on a tank is equivalent to driving from New York City to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida without filling up (or Warsaw, Poland to Marseille, France for you Europeans). Impressive!
