I could see getting the manual version. I can easily beat the epa rated city just png the whole time. Plus the boxer four sounds fantastic and I could put a little muffler on there and have some fun. The big bonus here is its awd, a hatch, and can tow 1500, and could easily average 30 mpg. Could replace my Prius and Ranger one day maybe if I get tired of the fleet of odd vehicles.

They used the Crosstreck because it outsells the Impreza almost 2 to 1.
Crosstrek 144,384 (up 31%)
Impreza 76,460 (down 11%)

At least in theory, Subaru could benefit a lot more from the HSD tech from Toyota, since it's already been fitted to longitudinally-engined applications too.

Looking into it more I don't think they even offer a hybrid option anymore.

They brought back the PHEV version for 2019.

You say brought back the PHEV. There was a prior one? What was the first year?

Not that I know of. I should have said they brought it back with a PHEV version.

Now let's see if Subaru will take a hybrid approach seriously...

The 2020 Crosstrek Hybrid has a heat pump!

Sorry for this late response. I don't typically post here...
I can vouch for the 'heat pump' heater in the 2020 Crosstrek Hybrid. It is right in the owner's manual. I did not see this info posted anywhere easily found, which is why I looked in the owner's manual. (and incidentally found this topic here)
The cargo floor is not flat.
Both of the above are just like the Toyota Prius Prime. Heat pump and non-flat load floor.
Cheers,
Bill
