2020 Spirit of Ecomodder.com-III
So,I got close to completion of the boat tail.An additional week's work would have finished it.
The stinger is fully complete.
With the new data from DARKO we might estimate what we could see, next go-around at DARKO with the new tail:
*allowing zero improvement from 2014........................ Cd 0.2675
*with the SCCA racing mirrors................................... Cd 0.2505
*with cab/bed gap sealed........................................ Cd 0.2345
*With Viper/cowl-block............................................ Cd 0.2295
*Restore belly and diffuser....................................... Cd 0.1795
*Add stinger........................................... ............... Cd 0.1525
*Grille-block/extractor block..................................... Cd 0.1255
Since the atmosphere doesn't discriminate between billionaires and thousand-aires it's plausible that Spirit would generate numbers like this.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The new tail, while aerodynamically promising, is essentially what,in tool making parlance, would be referred as a 'male mold',or 'plug'.It's what the tooling (female mold) would be taken from,in which to create the actual, low weight part. It's very heavy.I can barely lift it.Without the pogos to help support it,I can't handle it.And living 'off-road',even with the pogos,I still can't handle it until I can complete enough concrete shop floor for the pogo castors to roll on.
And since the addition of the Honda Insight, the shop floor project has been delayed.
My task for the near future is to resume work on the shop in order to facilitate dealing with the tail. And completion of the floor pit will facilitate the under body work necessary to optimize the belly and wheel fairings.
If things fall together okay, and I can keep Spirit running,I may be able to finally conclude the pickup truck project.
I would like to do a custom bed which begins taper from the get-go,but that's a Herculean task.
