30.6 mpg in a 2005 Lincoln Town Car
With a 4.6 V8 and auto at that!
The route was 28 miles round trip from my Aunt's house into Smithfield and back. 25% city, 75% country roads obeying the speed limits along the way... meaning about 5 mph below :D I was surprised at how easy it was to pass the highway rating of 25. It is completely stock, except for a set of 225/60R17 Michelin Energy Saver A/S that were pumped up to just below sidewall max ;) I beat the Highway rating for my Escort ZX2 (30 mpg) also. I don't doubt that 35 mpg would be possible, maybe 40+ in competition. |
The Power of Puttering.

For sure ;)
And coasting every chance I could get! |
Sure it was a Northstar? That's a GM engine!

Names aside, it was still a 239 hp, 4.6L V8 :D |
You did that on purpose so you could post again.
Me too. |
The Northstar engine was a Cadillac engineered engine and was not exactly an engineering tour de force, to be charitable. I had a neighbor who had one and it sounded like it was made of sheet metal.
|
But a sheet metal engine is a tour de force!
|
Crosley made a sheet metal engine!
|
Yup!
