36.5 mpg from inefficient 4-banger

So, first tracked tank with the ScanGauge connected netted me 36.5 mpg.

Quite happy with it, because my driving has been really consistent, but it is TOUGH getting good mileage out of the Sunfire. The old Metro would pull off 45 to 50 mpg without even trying.

I do a 40-mile (one way) commute everyday and my best one way trip has been 39.8 mpg...having a hell of time nailing that 40 mpg trip.

Anyone else have a 2.2L J-body and noticed how inefficient they seem to be?

I'm just picky. I consider anything under 40mpg as "inefficient"...

My sunfire does alright.

Good fuel mileage is not the same as engine efficiency. The sunfire's engine is ~60% larger than the metro's 1.3l engine. If all else is the same (weight, aero etc...) the metro should have gotten 60% better fuel mileage just to be as efficient as the sunfire. Right?

You have good point there.

I guess when I compare the Sunfire to a Honda (for instance), it just seems like a far less efficient vehicle.

Maybe I'm just expecting too much...

To bad you don't have the Olds Quad 4 instead of the junk Chevy 2.2.
