What is this process I hear people doing where they put Seafoam in the intake?

I saw some people did it in YouTube videos. They poured SeaFoam into the intake I guess and the car smoked like crazy. Guess it's supposed to clean the system out better than just spraying. Has anybody here tried this? What exactly do you do?
