97 Civic HX MPG not up to snuff

I have had a 97 honda civic hx 5 sp man trans for15 yrs. I have a used engine from japan. I have 70 series tires. I use amsoil. If I drive 55 on the fwy I get 40 mpg.

I get 33-35 in the city. This is the norm.

Only a prius will consistently get 44 mpg and up.

Your hx probably has an auto trans. Maybe the wrong tires and cheap oil.

Some problems. Maybe timing is off.

Fuel injectors dirty.

Yet, like I said, only a prius can beat it.
