Paint Job cont.

Final paint.

I used a clear coat with 1/2 teaspoon of Eye Candy "Sushi Roll" color changing pearl per 3/4 quart. Mixed 4:1:1 hardener and reducer.

I did three coats at about 28 psi wide open trigger with an Eastwood Concours 2 Paint gun. I did three coats with the pigment and I think I did a final topcoat in clear. It layed real flat. I didn't buff or cut it.

In full light it is green with gold, then turns dark blue out of the light. I really like this color.

Nice. I've become interested in flip-flop paints since following the Dip Your Car videos on Youtube.

I have looked at the Dip your Car videos. Their "peelable" paint is out of my budget. You need to spray a full two gallons in order to be able to easily peal that off. I looked and it was at least $600 just for the peelable paint without the gun.

I looked at the Whitely Auto Works and the GT's Performance paint videos on YouTube as my research. They do the clearcoat with the pearls over rust oleum paints and they try all type of base colors and pearls. I saw them both spray the Sushi Roll and liked that color.

I did my paint job for $150 and I have enough clearcoat to do another vehicle. I already had the black epoxy and urethane surfacer. It was over two years old and needed to be used before it went bad.

My roof is currently white, but I will do a Ghost Pearl green over that when it gets warmer out. I ran out of time last season before I could get to it.

DYC was the gateway, Youtube has been offering Rustoleum mixing ratio videos.

The only paint job I need is a single stage Shantung Gold top coat on the Superbeetle; my neighbor is repainting bicycle frames and I'm trying to get him to try Dupli-Color rattle cans. IIRC they have them at the local Wilco.

Some more photos. Hard to get the colorshift on camera. In video it shifts hard walking around the car.

Homemade projector lights

Last was to make projector lights. There are no aftermarket projectors available for the B4 Passat so I made my own from Amazon H1 cheap projectors retrofitted into the stock lights.

I basically just used a 4" hole saw to cut two holes in the lens, installed the projectors with new LED H1 bulbs, then covered with a new piece of Lexan cut and bent with heat and used urethane (heated) for the sealant, screwed, then painted. They really improve my night vision and look okay at 10' away.

I also installed LED fog/driving lights and made a new lexan lens cover for both.
