Sorry,the fella in Lubbock is Bruce Ruefer,a local designer and hang-gliding enthusiast.I might guess that he's using rip-stop nylon for the envelope.
There have been inflatable light planes since the 1950s.Looking over some of Goodyear Aerospace's patents would show you how they handle sewn-in bulkheads,formers and stringers to help 'fix' the inflated shape.
