Outboard wheels adds the complication of interaction between the separate shapes that can add turbulence/drag that is hard to anticipate.
What is that Red Bull car, by the way?

I second this. Make something you are proud of, but make something. Too many people talk. Too few people actually do anything.

There are a few three-wheel projects on here. Is anyone designing theirs with car-rivaling crash worthiness? What would it take to make a three-wheeler tough enough to tip an SUV?

What would a race car look like if it were designed without any restrictions? This is what Red Bull came up with and it was incorporated into the driving "sim" Grand Turismo 5.

It might be possible to make a 500 lb vehicle crash worthy with itself, but physics will not allow it to do well in a collision with an SUV.

what R U crazy?
make SUV drive over you in crash? better stop watching so much TV.
The Velocity of two vegicles meeting plus the ground contact force of even smaller SUV means you destroy frond drive train and bend frame of the SUV.
The LOW LOW rider will absorb that velocity and pressure in frontal impact.
This is lose lose scenario and the only gleam of benefit would be that LOW car is not a hood ornament?? I know where ya got it from but they use ramps for those stunts.

If you look for SUV vs Sports car accident pictures online, you'll find many instances where the SUV sails right over the top of the sports car, leaving it relatively unscathed. It's far safer for the sports car driver than a collision with an identical vehicle. Likewise, the SUV can usually be driven away undamaged, unless of course it rolls.

car-rivaling crash worthiness
I'm going to do a full cage and there will be side pods which will absorb some kinetic energy of a side impact, but I don't have any pretension of matching all the finite element analysis and crash test-derived engineering which goes into production cars, let alone the inertia and momentum.
Driving is risky.
