Aerodynamic improvements for Tesla cargo trailer.
I have a 4'x8' cargo trailer that will be adapted for use as camper. It will be pulled by a Tesla Model Y.
The Tesla Supercharger network is amazing, and it enabled me to drive from California to Illinois to pick-up my new trailer, but I have travel plans for this July that will be a challenge with the reduction in range I’m seeing with the stock trailer.
Initial observations indicate an approximate 50% reduction in range pulling the empty trailer (750 LBS) at 65MPH.
The goal is to increase the distance that I can travel between charges.
For the purpose of design and testing, I will be using 65MPH as baseline for highway speeds. Actual speeds will likely be between 55-65 depending on terrain, conditions, and need to maximize range.
I have produced some drawings of proposed modifications based on general concepts that I have gleaned from reading other Ecomodder forum threads dealing with similar projects. These will be used as a jumping off point to start the conversation.
I welcome all thoughts, ideas, and criticisms.
Thanks,
Dan
