How about retrofitting the top of a standard box with a semi-rigid structure that has the same shape/effect? Would that lead to a faster adaptation of the shape?

Kinda like how farings were added to the earlier truck shapes to make them more aerodynamic.

looking at the anime, Im wondering if there is any changes to the flow in the lower part of the truck ?

I think the aforementioned airbag concept seems to be the best work around. it could be surrounded by a solid framework to protect it from most of the elements that could be designed in such a way as to collapse into itself, thus allowing it to fit into the limited space on the trailer roof.
