AirFlow Truck Company StarShip

Hello all -

I haven't posted in a while as we have been behind schedule and busy finishing the truck. I hope to be able to document the truck build within 90 days.

After reading aerohead's recent threads regarding aerodynamic windshields

http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...ion-34798.html

http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...pdf-34799.html

I figured that I would post a cropped, teaser-image of the AirFlow StarShip windshield. Sorry I cannot post any images with more detail at this time due to confidentiality agreements.

The AirFlow StarShip windshield is very similar to the Koenigsegg Regera windshield. It is fabricated from 100% DOT approved safety glass, with the DOT certification markings at the lower edge.

Watta ya think, Phil?

Looks like it's straight off an aircraft.

YOWZA.......that's sexy.

How heavy?

I bet it gains a lot of strength from the shape/form so could be made thinner.

Wipers?

Mono-blade?

EDIT:
I hope you travel goose free.

Thanks for checking in, keeping busy takes precedence. Yours is the one I compare similar projects to.

It looks like the Koenigsegg has a two-piece windshield.

It looks like that, but it's just the mono windshield wiper. Interior photos bear this out.

Thanks.

How heavy?

Two guys can easily install it. Just bulky.

Wipers?

Mono-blade?

We will be installing custom wipers using a street rod cable-drive setup.

kach22i is correct. The Koenigsegg has a one-piece windshield with a mono-blade wiper. The StarShip has a two-piece windshield. Nobody makes a windshield oven deep enough to fabricate it in one piece. So we'll have dual wipers, probably parked at the center pillar.

So I was wrong twice. Seems to be a trend.

Every time I see this thread I go back to Google Images and frustrate myself trying to find this concept truck I saw. I probably have the pictures on a hard drive I should have written the password to down somewhere.

Anyway, it had an entry door low on the right between the axles, two steps up to the front to the cab, three steps up to a rear sleeper cab that had a shower on the left opposite and above the entry.

Good comparison.

Smaller scale, different materials; hydroplane/drag boat

Apparently those and other materials are intended to deflect impact.

F-16 Canopy bird impact test - incredible result

Have you ever imagined what happens when a bird impact a jet fighter canopy?
The momorail example does impress me as being some sort of glass though.

EDIT: There goes my wiper delete plans.

MICHIGAN VEHICLE CODE (EXCERPT)
Act 300 of 1949

http://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(o5r...me=mcl-257-709
Quote:
(4) Except as provided in subsection (5), the windshield on each motor vehicle shall be equipped with a device for cleaning rain, snow, or other moisture from the windshield, which device shall be so constructed as to be controlled or operated by the driver of the vehicle. A vehicle licensed as an historical vehicle is exempt from this subsection if the vehicle was not originally equipped with such a device. Each windshield wiper upon a motor vehicle shall be maintained in good working order.

(5) A truck with a gross weight over 10,000 pounds, a truck tractor, a bus, or a truck regardless of weight carrying hazardous materials on which a placard is required to be posted pursuant to 49 CFR parts 100 to 199 having a windshield shall be equipped with not less than 2 automatically operating windshield wiper blades, 1 on each side of the centerline of the windshield, for cleaning rain, snow, or other moisture from the windshield. The blades shall be in such condition as to provide clear vision for the driver, unless 1 blade is so arranged as to clean an area of the windshield extending to within 1 inch of the limit of vision through the windshield at each side. However, in driveaway-towaway operations, this subsection applies only to the operated vehicle. In addition, 1 windshield wiper blade suffices under this subsection when the driven vehicle in a driveaway-towaway operation constitutes part or all of the property being transported and has no provision for 2 blades. A truck and truck tractor, manufactured after June 30, 1953, that depends upon vacuum to operate the windshield wipers, shall be so constructed that the operation of the wipers is not materially impaired by change in the intake manifold pressure.
Shepard777 needs two wiper blades, one on each side, but I bet he has a bunch of Federal regulations filling his days and nights up already.

Man, how do you run wipers on that thing? For the life of me, I can't figure they would go without some kind of rube goldberg cable operated sliding wiper system.

There are many cable driven wiper systems for street cars and hot rods. That's what we are using.
