return from the dark side...

hello all,
I've not been on much in a couple years
my last commuter died (200sx), and I've been commuting 55 miles each way in my 600hp GTO

I just picked up a 1991 Geo Metro (3cyl, 5sp) for a couple hundred bucks
it's dirty, worn hard, and in need of a clutch, a new windshield, and a drivers window track mechanism
but it made it to work this morning
had to go to 4th and keep the speed down on a couple hills to keep the clutch from slipping too much

here's my old Intro thread

Nice Metro. I recently bought one similar but four door. It needed CV shafts (done), passenger front wheel bearing (next project) and maybe a transmission as 2nd gear is finicky. my windshield is cracked but I'll probably leave it as it doesn't bother me, and both front fenders are pretty bad, though I think they must have come from a salvage yard at some time because the red is a little different (less faded) and they are very rusty compared to the rest of the car being really good and solid.

I've got no reason to question that, the whole car is well worn, but I dont think it's 300k worn

I've driven the car about 270 miles since filling it up, fuel gauge shows 1/3 full
I'll probably fill her up tonight for my first fuel economy log (I expect to be extra low with the slipping clutch, carb/FI cleaner, and the extra idleing when I was playing around with the car

btw,
I've got an engine hoist lined up, and I'm probably ordering my new clutch/flywheel this afternoon

filled her up last night
nearly 300 miles, took just over 6.5 gallons

45+mpg
and that's with a double dose of fuel injector cleaner, a slipping clutch, and a bunch of idling (while getting the car sorted out)
no telling how old most of the gas in the car was, as I had just purchased it

With a 55 mile commute, that thing will pay for itself pretty quick!
