Ecomod for old vehicles

Hi all!

I own a 1990 Audi 100, imported from Germany (to where I am living, Spain). Even before I've got my driving licence I've been interested in fuel economy and doing an effort to squeeze every gallon of gasoline I buy to get maximum mileage.

I've been looking at some eco mods such as ScanGauge, but those must be put in vehicles built in, at least, 1994. Obviously that mod won't run on my car (which used to be my father's car).

So my question is: Is there any cheap, easy to install eco mod around there? Up to this point I've been measuring my gas mileage by pure logic & sense on short trips (looking at how much has the fuel hand moved xD). I've got 42,7 MPG in a short trip of 108 km, which I think is pretty good having in mind that the engine displacement is of 2.3 liters with 133 HP.

Now, what I really want to know is how much fuel I am using in certain situations (climbing cliffs on 3th, 4th or even 5th engine). And ofcourse I want an exact way to measure my mileage!

Thank you very much for your attention!

You need a fuel flow meter for exact calculation of the fuel consumption.
I'll suggest a vacuum meter/gauge

There is a sort of prehistoric scanguage called a mpguino that measures fuel consumption and figures fuel consumption per distance travelled (mpg/l/100km). I bought one for my 1992 Camry, but have yet to install it. If I remember correctly, I bought mine from a man in Scotland about a year ago.

Hi again,
Let me correct the above post. I bought the mpguino from Meelis Parjasaar in Estonia. I found out about buying one from him by Googling "mpguino". The mpguino is connected to ground, 12v, an injector, and the vehicle speed sensor.

If you Google "mpguino for sale" his web site pops up as the first choice.

A vacuum gauge is a great aide to helping you develop a very light touch on the gas pedal.

Of course, OLD cars don't have injectors, they have carburettors :-) Even my hope-it-runs-forever '88 Toyota pickup has injectors.

MPGuino should work if you have electronic fuel injection. It won't work with mechanical fuel injection or a carburetor.

How mechanically-inclined you are? And what about the gearing of your car? Manual or automatic?
