I have to say the aero-modded version is WAY more "stylish" than the original brick shape. Looks like a Japanese bullet train.

The stock vehicle is better looking in my opinion, although the aero Jeep does look cool. Wonder what Cd and MPG it can get.

I spoke briefly with a Jeep Cherokee owner in the parking lot of Home Depot today. I told him that I considered buying one two years ago, but ended up with my S-10 instead. Then I asked if he got 16 mpg, he didn't seem to understand the question, and asked me to repeat it.
Then he said; gosh no, I only get 10 mpg...........you have a nice truck, better keep it.
He smiled and went on his way.
As I understand it, there are several pollution control (maintenance items) under the hood which commonly go bad and drop the gas mileage way down.
A Jeep Cherokee needs all the help it can get, an aero package is a good start.

The Jeep is not for everyone. It largely depends on your personality, your sense of adventure, as to whether or not you should be the owner of one. It is similar to owning a HD, you join a fraternity of other owners for its anachronistic symbolism. Jeep lifestyle; allowed to nod/wave @ other Jeep owners, off-road capabilities, wind in the hair (Wrangler), relatively simpler mechanics for accessible DIY, & could thoroughly enjoy all four seasons. The flip side; Limited luxury, safety or even security, limited driver/passenger comfort, horrible commuter ride, and expected 'brick' mpgs. The no-frills lifestyle & frozen-design styling is the brand's raison d'etre.

It had a segment on aerodynamics and they coastdown tested a Jeep along side of a Prius in stock configuration, then they gave the Jeep this aerodynamic transformation to do another coastdown run against the Prius.
The way they conducted the runs, smoke test demo and what they said was kind of silly but the body work they gave the jeep is a work of art in my humble opinion.
Soon after I saw this show,I searched for more info on this and could not find a dang thing on the internet about it.
Last night I looked again and found a video of the episode.
I did my best to grab screen shots and make images out of it but my photo editing skills are limited so apologies if they show up really crappy.
Let me try:
Here they are installing the styrofoam nose cone:
Nose installed:
Here the tail being installed:
A couple of nose pics of the finished unit on the road:
Almost done side view:
Along side the Prius:
They also added some roof camber which is visible here.
A couple of side views:
And a tail view:
I think she is gorgeous!
Too bad the female host of the show felt that it was necessary for her to express her opinion about it in a comment like" it is not exactly stylish!"
I think it is a hell of a lot more stylish than the rolling brick stock form but it seems like the ecomodder is the rare breed and the beauty is in the eye of the beholder! (or something like that).
If you want to watch the whole episode online, here is the link to the video..below:
You will see the horizontal bar at the bottom of the video split up to four equal segments. If you want to skip right to the aerodynamic stuff, click right in the middle of the third segment!

Enjoy!

Perhaps the Italians will catch the show 'n get some ideas for their Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth/Jeep product line.Okay, they could do it with the Fiats as well.
Too much fun! Thanks big-time!

Shooting from the hip,and because the Jeep has 'illegal' ground clearance I'd guess that it's around Cd 0.12.
If its original HWY mpg was 16,then the mods would push it to 22 mpg.

A friend gets 20+ in his lightly lifted Cherokee on the highway, this should get 30 or better.
Botsapper: lol yeah, first thing I did with mine was remove all of the "extra" comfort items out, not like it had much to begin with.
