I do not know if it has been mentioned through all the pages, but the final drive is different on the Xb compared to either the echo or the Xa. It has a more aggressive diff for a more sporty drive.

I knew the Echo was different (better), but the xA also?
The automatic is similar between vehicles I believe.

By the way, I love IS300s, you are lucky.

I am not 100% sure which has what, but i know there is a difference.

I too enjoy the IS, it is a lot more disconnected to driving and quite a bit slower than what i hope for, but that is like all cars!

Hey, i like xBs, so you are lucky too!!!

Alrighty, a little update from here at the shop...

the tank is sitting on the ground, when we pulled it it had exactly one gallon of gas in it

the car is sitting at 564.2 (checked it right before we put it on the lift)

going off there is an 11.9 gallon tank

564.2 / 10.9 = 51.76 MPG

next step, put everything back together, refl tank, and run that sucker dry to see the maxium rang of this tank

Slower than what you hope for? Well the xB is incredibly slow but it feels very connected to the road!

We have come a long way since this thread was created.

I filled in the area above the headlights with a rubber seal for that extra 0.0001 off the Cd.

i just read this entire thread, good stuff! any of you guys still around??

one thing i heard and was wondering if it was true was that many newer cars (our 1st gen xB's included) is that when you are engine braking, your computer cuts off the fuel feed completely and it only comes on again when you step on the gas or when your RPM's go below what is required to idle. i live at the top of the hill and utilize engine braking to maintain the speed i want all the way down. in theory, i'd be using no gas at all even though the car is on and i don't need to utilize EOC right?

also, has anyone here looked into things like lightened (but not underdriven) pulleys like perrin as well as lightened flywheels?

Thanks for rediscovering this thread. I didn't know it existed, and I bought my xB in 2009, a year after the post prior to yours was posted. I haven't read the 25 pages in this thread, but I'm averaging 49.2 mpg for >28,000 miles since I bought my xB. My longest tank is 642 miles averaging > 60 mpg.
