Im a student and I'm building my portfolio site but need help!

Does anyone know Wordpress and javascript/jQuery by any chance? Its something really simple (im sure for someone that knows what their doing) but I can't get it right!! For some reason my custom Javascript/jQuery is interfering with all jquery plug ins... ?!?
