Water pump and thermostats have greatly increased in reliability . thermostat would need replacing multiple times in 100k time-frame . Now they last 100k on many vehicles , that said there no excuse for mounting/placing the stat in hard to get at place as location is not that important .

To drag this thread further off topic Some serial hybrid systems for buses are using two turbine engines. This allows one engine to operate at peak efficiency to meet the base load and the other to charge the batteries and/or provide extra power when needed.

Turbine engines don't have to match RPMs.

I wouldn't trust VW/Audi with anything more complicated than a hammer and nail.

Plenty of warships had 2 different sets of gas turbines, a pair of small ones and a pair of big ones to better match the engines with the actual power requirements.
