a couple of hp could be the difference between having to down shift on a hill, and help in stop and go traffic. you might not notice in a heavy vehicle, but my crx only weighs 1700 pounds. If deleting the alternator gains 10 % mpg, adding hp would also increase mpg.

After building my own hybrid, I'm going to go with this. I built it mainly for the fun aspect, and to say I did it. The actual gains were hardly anything once I factored in power from the grid to charge the batteries, and it proved very difficult to drive through traffic using 2 throttles.
